Driver Ejected in I-94 Crash After Police Chase

Driver ejected in I-94 crash after police chase in Macomb County early Monday morning, prompting a full closure of westbound lanes near the 9 Mile exit in St. Clair Shores. The pursuit began after officers from the Sterling Heights Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle shortly after 3 a.m.

According to Sterling Heights Police Captain Mario Bastianelli, officers were dispatched to the area of Metro Parkway and Dequindre Road to investigate the possible stolen vehicle. While police could not locate the reported vehicle, they noticed a black Dodge Charger in the vicinity that appeared to be driving suspiciously. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle accelerated rapidly, leading to a high-speed chase.

The pursuit stretched across multiple cities and highways, moving through Warren, onto eastbound I-696, and then southbound on I-94. The chase ended violently near the 9 Mile exit when the Charger crashed. Upon impact, the 27-year-old male driver from Detroit was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities confirmed he sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The crash led to the temporary closure of all westbound lanes of I-94 in the area as investigators worked the scene. Law enforcement is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the chase and crash. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Sterling Heights police at 586-446-2825.

Understanding the Compensation Available to Crash Victims

Accidents involving high-speed chases can lead to devastating injuries, and in many cases, victims and their families face overwhelming medical expenses, emotional trauma, and long-term recovery challenges. In situations like this, compensation may be available to cover a wide range of damages, including:

  • Emergency and long-term medical treatment

  • Rehabilitation and physical therapy

  • Lost wages and reduced earning potential

  • Pain and suffering

  • Emotional distress

  • Permanent disability or disfigurement

If another party, such as law enforcement or a negligent third party, contributed to the crash, the injured individual—or their family—may be entitled to significant compensation.
