Drunken Driver Crashes Into Cars, Targets Residents
Shelby Township, MI — A suspected drunken driver was arrested in July after ramming several parked cars and driving through yards in Shelby Township, according to police. Drunken Driver Crashes Into Cars in Shelby Township, creating chaos and endangering residents.
Police reported that Madison Forsyth was driving drunk on July 21 in the area of Ruann and Connie Drives when she struck multiple parked cars. Officers in the vicinity spotted Forsyth’s car and attempted to stop her, but she rammed the patrol car. In her desperate attempt to escape, she hit a second patrol car that tried to intervene.
As Forsyth fled from the officers, she drove aggressively toward a group of people, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. She then began driving through backyards in the neighborhood, trying to elude officers, before finally crashing into a post and coming to a stop.
Forsyth failed a field sobriety test and registered a .25 percent BAC on a preliminary breath test, more than three times the legal limit. She was arrested and charged with felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, fleeing and eluding, and operating while intoxicated. Forsyth was placed in jail but released after posting a $500 bond. Police did not disclose her next court date.
Shelby Township Police Chief Robert Shelide expressed his shock at the low bond set for Forsyth. “I am just as shocked that this driver wreaked havoc in Shelby Township, causing damage to multiple vehicles before driving right at innocent civilians. I am thankful no one was injured. I was stunned to hear that Forsyth was allowed to leave after paying such a low bond after all the damage and danger she inflicted,” Shelide said.
