Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested After Wrong-Way Crash in Detroit

A suspected drunk driver is now in custody following a serious head-on collision on the Southfield Freeway in Detroit early Sunday morning, according to Michigan State Police (MSP).

Wrong-Way Driving Leads to a Collision

Authorities say the incident unfolded just after midnight when multiple 911 calls reported a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway. As troopers rushed to intercept the driver, a devastating head-on crash occurred near Joy Road.

The impact of the crash resulted in injuries, with a passenger in the vehicle that was not at fault suffering a lower-body injury. Emergency responders transported the injured victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

Suspect Arrested for Drunk Driving

Following the crash, Michigan State Police arrested the wrong-way driver on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and will likely pursue charges against the driver.

MSP Lt. Mike Shaw addressed the situation on social media, expressing frustration over impaired driving. “There are just too many ways to get around if you decide to drink,” Shaw stated. “Getting behind the wheel impaired is unacceptable.”

Compensation for the Victims

For the injured victim in this crash, the road to recovery may involve costly medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. In cases like these, victims have the right to pursue compensation for their damages, including:

  • Medical Expenses – Coverage for emergency room visits, surgeries, rehabilitation, and ongoing treatment.
  • Lost Wages – Compensation for time missed at work due to injuries.
  • Pain and Suffering – Damages for physical pain, emotional distress, and reduced quality of life.
  • Property Damage – Coverage for vehicle repairs or replacement.

Victims of drunk driving accidents should not have to bear the financial burden of someone else’s reckless decision. Seeking legal representation can help ensure they receive the maximum compensation they deserve.
