Warren Man Faces Charges in Deadly Hit-and-Run

A deadly hit-and-run incident in Eastpointe, Michigan, has led to charges against a 52-year-old Warren man, highlighting the tragic consequences of reckless driving. The crash occurred on September 25, 2024, along northbound Gratiot Avenue near Chestnut Avenue. Authorities report that the suspect, Adib Mikha Estefo, fled the scene after fatally striking a pedestrian, leaving the victim to die in the street.

According to witness accounts, a man was seen lying in the middle of Gratiot Avenue shortly after the crash. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered a 30-year-old man from Roseville, identified as Christopher Pounce Jr., unresponsive and tragically deceased. He had been struck while attempting to cross the road on foot.

Police investigations revealed that a silver four-door sedan was involved in the collision. While the vehicle briefly stopped after the crash, the driver quickly fled the scene, heading northbound on Gratiot Avenue. Authorities launched a swift investigation, and Estefo was arrested on Friday, September 27, two days after the incident.

Estefo faces serious charges for failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death, a crime that carries significant legal consequences. His bond has been set at $75,000 in cash, and a probable cause hearing is scheduled for October 8, 2024. This incident has not only resulted in a senseless loss of life but also serves as a reminder of the severe legal repercussions of hit-and-run accidents.

Compensation at Stake for Victims

For the family of Christopher Pounce Jr., this tragedy goes beyond the legal consequences faced by the driver. The emotional toll of losing a loved one in such a manner is profound, and in cases like these, the victim’s family may be entitled to significant compensation under Michigan law. Compensation for hit-and-run accidents typically covers several factors, including funeral and burial expenses, lost income (if the victim was a provider), and emotional distress damages. In wrongful death claims, families may seek compensation for the loss of companionship, guidance, and emotional support that the deceased provided.

Additionally, there may be medical expenses related to emergency treatment attempted at the scene, and in some cases, families may also seek punitive damages aimed at holding the negligent party accountable for their reckless actions. However, hit-and-run cases present unique challenges since the fleeing driver often complicates the compensation process. Identifying the responsible party is crucial, and without the proper legal guidance, families may face delays or denials in obtaining justice.
